Has Marcus Bondesson made Sweden's longest hole-in-one?
A hole in one on a par four is always impressive. But when it measures a whopping 360 metres, it's even more thrilling. One of the latest registrations in Dormy HiO Team is Marcus Bondesson - and he accomplished exactly that feat!
19-year-old Marcus Bondesson plays a two-person scramble with a group of friends on a Saturday in late August. Torshälla Golf Club presents windy conditions, but the course is otherwise in excellent late summer condition.
When they step up to the tee on hole 17, Marcus feels the tailwind at his back. It's a par-four measuring 363 metres that bends slightly to the left, with bunkers on either side of the green. But when the rangefinder shows 360 metres, a hole-in-one isn't typically the first thought that comes to mind.
"The driver had felt good throughout the round, and I had a good feeling before the tee shot. I tee up and hit a perfect drive with a slight draw."
The ball lands about 20 metres short of the green, rolls up towards the flag, and then disappears from sight.
"My pulse increased dramatically when I saw the ball disappear, but we weren't sure if it had actually gone in as it was quite difficult to see that far."
As Marcus gets closer to the green, his pulse rises even more. He starts jogging forward, but no ball is visible on the green.
"When I then looked down into the hole and the ball was there, we all jumped for joy. I could hardly believe it was true! 360 metres!"
Could this be a new Swedish record for the longest hole-in-one? Either way: wow!
Congratulations to Marcus on his second hole-in-one, following his first which came when he was just 12 years old.
